The following Gallery of images was inspired by the German Photographer Tom Jacobi and his book 'Grey Matter(s)'. The images are mainly of the rugged South Devon Coastline, though the final one is of the East Sussex coast where the River Cuckmere reaches the sea.
Amsterdam
Amsterdam is perhaps one of the most photogenic cities on earth with its amazing matrix of canals, canal side housing and commercial building as well as the eclectic array of people who live, work and visit there. My images are essentially ones taken in early spring when the weather was very grey, overcast and misty.
These seascapes taken on the North east Coast of England at Saltburn and Sandsend were inspired by the work of photographer Alfred Ehrhardt (1901 - 1984) who took similar scenes of the seascapes of the 'Watts' or inter-tidal zones of the coast in Northern Germany during the 1930's. I've added images of the beaches at Saltburn and Sandsend during periods of calm after recent storms to show the contrasting and ever changing dynamics of their inter tidal zones.
